WHAT WE DO

ATRIUM PLUS intends to capitalize the set of useful tools produced by the project ATRIUM-Architecture of  Totalitarian Regimes of the XX Century in Urban Management, 2011-2013, co-funded by the South-Est Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme. 

The project culminated in the establishment of the European Cultural Route, certified by the Council of Europe in April 2014, devoted to this dissonant and uncomfortable heritage. On facing the challenge still open for all the institutions and stakeholders concerned, ATRIUM PLUS wants to capitalise the ATRIUM Route's achievements by exploring new ways of ethical and responsible  storytelling and tourism experiences addressed to young generations.

WHAT WE PLAN TO ACHIEVE

To make the ATRIUM Cultural Route a cultural-tourism
attraction for students through a few well-defined action lines:

   1) The activation of a cross-border programme of study visits involving
       schools located in ATRIUM PLUS target cities/areas
   2) The design and implementation of a cross-border training
       course for tourist guides
   3) The design and implementation of a common information
       strategy and action plan for visitors.

The testing of educational itineraries focused on this particular and uncomfortable heritage, asrelevant component of the legacy of 20th century, is new and original.

ATRIUM PLUS is funded by the 2014-2020 Interreg V-A ITALY-CROATIA CBC Programme that enables regional and local stakeholders from the two countries to exchange knowledge and experiences, to develop and implement pilot actions, to test the feasibility of new policies, products and services and to support investments.

CROSS-BORDER PROGRAMME OF STUDY VISITS

A cross-border programme of study visits will actively involve schools located in Bari, Ferrara, Forlì, Labin and Zadar.

Students will test the cultural-tourism potential of the architectural heritage and memories linked to non-democratic regimes of the 20th century and will be educated as responsible and informed tourists of the future.

CROSS-BORDER TRAINING COURSE

A crossborder traning course will be targeted not only to professional guides, but also to citizens willing to cooperate in the fruition of this specific heritage, building on the so-called “city walking” experiences originated by the FARO Convention of the Council of Europe.

As the heritage concerned is the expression of non-democratic regimes that caused terrible tragedies to populations during the 20th century, tourist guides'storytelling must be based on a very informed, ethical and critical approach. The aim is to give visitors (expecially the youngest people) a historical-architectural context overview of the periods when buildings were built.

In thisperspective the traditional visit will be combined with workshops to deepen reflection on the life during this historical period.

INFORMATION STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN
FOR VISITORS

The common information strategy and action plan for visitors  will consist of signposting and informative panels/totems, containing any useful information regarding places, buildings, monuments, events etc., related to the heritage concerned, to offer well-designed itineraries of the 20th century.
